Open project documents from reference chips

Use document reference chips to quickly open related project documents directly from metadata fields.

Audience

This guide is designed for project manager.

Steps​

Step 1: Locate document reference chips in a project view​

In a project screen, scroll to the relevant metadata field to see any linked documents displayed as rounded chips on the right-hand side; if no documents are linked, you will see a simple dash instead.

Step 2: Review the names of linked documents​

Look at the text on each chip to understand which project document it represents; long names are truncated but you can hover over a chip to see the full filename or document name in a tooltip.

Step 3: Open a referenced document in the same tab​

Select the chip for the document you want to review; the document opens in the current tab at its project document page, so you can read or manage it as usual.

Step 4: Open a referenced document in a new tab​

Use your browser shortcut, such as Ctrl+Click or middle-click, on a chip to open the linked project document in a new tab while keeping your current project view open.

Step 5: Navigate through chips using the keyboard​

Press the Tab key to move focus between document chips, then press Enter or Space on the focused chip to open the corresponding project document.
