Configure board column settings

Adjust work-in-progress limits and visibility options for an individual board column.

Audience

This guide is designed for project manager.

Steps

Step 1: Open column settings

Open the board and select the column you want to configure, then click its settings or options icon to open the Column Settings panel.

Step 2: Set the work-in-progress (WIP) limit

In the Column Settings panel, enter the maximum number of items allowed in the column; enter 0 if you do not want to enforce a WIP limit.

Step 3: Hide the column if required

Tick "Hide column (items still exist)" if you want to hide the column from normal board view while keeping all existing items in that column.

Step 4: Choose whether the column is collapsed by default

Tick "Collapse by default" if you want the column to appear collapsed when the board is first opened, helping to reduce visual clutter.

Step 5: Save your column settings

Click "Save" to apply your changes; the panel will close automatically when the settings are saved successfully and the column will update on the board.

Step 6: Review saved settings when reopening

Reopen the Column Settings panel for the same column to confirm that the WIP limit, hide option and collapse option reflect your previously saved values.

Step 7: Check behaviour if saving fails

If saving fails due to a network or system issue, the Column Settings panel remains open so you can retry saving or adjust your changes without losing them.
