Manage item stage transitions from the action bar

Use the stage action bar to move items forward or back through their lifecycle, with clear validation and readiness context.

Steps

Step 1: Review available stage transitions

Open the item read view and scroll to the stage action bar to see all available transitions, including forward moves and secondary options such as cancel or return; unavailable transitions are clearly disabled with reasons shown.

Step 2: Check readiness and any blocking requirements

For each transition, review the readiness notes and any outstanding requirements shown so you understand what evidence, labels or fields are missing before the move can be completed.

Step 3: Start a forward or secondary transition

Click the primary forward transition button or a secondary option such as cancel or return to trigger the confirmation dialog for that stage change.

Step 4: Provide confirmation details

In the confirmation dialog, review the target stage, check any missing or outstanding readiness items, and enter any required comments or context to justify the transition.

Step 5: Complete a form-gated transition when required

If the selected transition requires a form, follow the prompt launched from the action bar, complete the necessary artefact details, and ensure that any required evidence is created in the process.

Step 6: Confirm the transition and refresh the item

Confirm the action to submit the stage transition; once completed, the item view refreshes so you can see the new stage and any updated transition options for further work.
