Use the Next step panel to progress your workspace item

The Next step panel helps you see the single most important action to move a workspace item forward, including any blockers and alternative actions.

Steps

Step 1: Open a workspace item and locate the Next step panel

On the workspace item detail page, scroll to the main content area to find the Next step panel, which summarises what should happen next for this item.

Step 2: Review the suggested next step

Read the main action in the panel, which explains the recommended next move based on the item's current lifecycle status and deadlines.

Step 3: Check for blockers and missing requirements

If the next step is blocked, review the list of missing information or requirements, and use any provided links to jump to the relevant section of the page.

Step 4: Edit required fields directly from the panel

Where available, select the option to edit a missing field so you can update details inline or scroll directly to the field that needs attention.

Step 5: Add linked items or permits if requested

If the panel indicates that a linked record or permit is missing, use the available actions to open the add flow and create or attach the required item.

Step 6: Review transition readiness notes

Read any readiness notes in the panel to understand what is still outstanding before the item is fully ready to move to the next stage.

Step 7: Take the primary next step

When you are ready and no critical blockers remain, select the main action button in the panel to move the item forward in its lifecycle.

Step 8: Explore additional actions from the More menu

Open the More menu to access other available actions, such as safety checks or backward moves, that are not shown as the primary next step.
