View events by category on the dashboard

Use the Events by Category widget to see how project events are distributed across different risk and impact categories.

Audience

This guide is designed for project manager.

Steps

Step 1: Locate the Events by Category widget

On your dashboard, scroll until you find the "Events by Category" widget showing a card with a category legend and event counts. If data is still loading, a skeleton placeholder appears until the chart is ready.

Step 2: Check loading, empty, or error states

When the widget first loads, a spinner or skeleton indicates that data is being fetched. If no events match your current filters, an empty state with an icon and message explains that there are no events to display. If something goes wrong, an alert with an error icon appears so you know the data could not be retrieved.

Step 3: Review event categories and colour legend

Once loaded, review the list of event categories such as Safety, Programme, Cost, Quality, Environment, Reputation, Legal, and Commercial, each shown with a distinct colour chip. Use the legend to understand which colour corresponds to each category in the chart and in any badges.

Step 4: Explore category groupings and totals

For each category group, check the total number of events included. The widget groups events into categories and shows how many items sit in each one, helping you quickly identify where most of your events or risks are concentrated.

Step 5: Inspect individual events within a category

Within each category section, review the listed events with key details such as reference, title, and linked project. Use this list to spot high-impact or high-likelihood events and identify which projects they belong to.

Step 6: Use project names to understand context

Where available, each event item shows its associated project name, allowing you to see which projects are creating the most events in a given category and to prioritise follow-up with the relevant teams.
