Manage focus when submitting guided forms

Ensure required fields are clearly highlighted and focused when users submit guided forms with missing information.

Audience

This guide is designed for project manager.

Steps

Step 1: Open the guided form

Navigate to the form in your application and confirm that required fields, such as the site name, are clearly marked so users know they must complete them before submission.

Step 2: Submit the form with missing required information

Click the Submit button without completing a required field and observe that the page scrolls to the first incomplete field and immediately moves keyboard and screen-reader focus to that control.

Step 3: Review and use the gap list

After attempting submission, review the gap list of missing fields and click on a named item (for example, "Site name") to move focus directly back to that specific input for quick correction.

Step 4: Confirm that submission is blocked until gaps are filled

Attempt to submit again while a required field is still empty and verify that the form does not proceed to the final submission step until all required fields are complete.
