Configure default values for form fields
Use the Default Value editor to set either a fixed value or a dynamic template variable as the default for a form field.
This guide is designed for project manager.
Steps
Step 1: Open the field default value editor
In the form builder, select the form field you want to configure and open its settings panel, then locate and open the Default value section to display the Default Value editor.

Step 2: Choose between fixed and dynamic default value modes
In the Default Value editor, switch between Fixed and Dynamic modes using the mode toggle so you can either type a constant value or use a template variable as the default.

Step 3: Enter a fixed default value
With Fixed mode selected, type the default value into the input field, following the placeholder guidance for the field type (for example, numbers, emails, or dates), and the system will save it as a static default for new form responses.

Step 4: Open the variable drawer to select a dynamic value
Switch to Dynamic mode and select the option to browse variables; this opens the template variable drawer where you can see all available variables based on project context and sequence configuration.

Step 5: Select and apply a template variable
In the variable drawer, choose the variable you want to use as the default; the editor inserts it into the field as a template (for example, {{ user.name }}) and shows it as a selected variable chip.

Step 6: Review or remove the selected variable
Check the displayed variable chip to confirm the chosen dynamic default; if needed, use the remove option on the chip to clear the variable and either pick a new one or return to a fixed default value.
