Take a plant item off hire

Use the off-hire dialog to safely terminate a plant item’s hire and apply all related site and check schedule changes.

Steps

Step 1: Open the off-hire dialog for the plant item

From the plant workspace, select the relevant plant item and choose the option to take it off hire; the confirmation dialog opens showing the plant reference and title at the top.

Step 2: Review the impact of off-hiring

Read the dialog text explaining that off-hiring pauses check schedules, ends escalations, cancels open cycles, expires the site authorisation and stops the public QR flow so you understand the consequences before proceeding.

Step 3: Check the expected off-hire date prompt

If an expected off-hire date has passed, review the prompt in the dialog that highlights this so you can confirm that now is the correct time to off-hire the plant.

Step 4: Add an optional supervisor note

In the comment box, type any note you want to record about why the plant is being taken off hire; this note is kept even if the off-hire attempt fails and you need to retry.

Step 5: Confirm and run the off-hire

Select the confirm or off-hire button to start the process; the dialog shows a loading state while the system applies all off-hire changes to the plant and related schedules.

Step 6: Handle inline errors and retry if needed

If the off-hire fails, review the inline error banner in the dialog, adjust your note if necessary and select the primary action again to retry while the dialog remains open.

Step 7: Copy your note if access is denied

If a permission error prevents off-hiring, use the "Copy note" action to copy your comment, then follow the banner guidance to contact a project administrator and share the copied note.
