Review a task on the unified timeline
Use the unified timeline to review an individual task’s dates, phase, status, and relationships to predecessor and dependent tasks.
This guide is designed for project manager.
Steps
Step 1: Find the task on the unified timeline
Locate the task row you want to review in the unified timeline view. Each row represents a single task, aligned with the shared date grid across the programme.

Step 2: Understand the task bar and marker shape
Look at the task’s bar or marker on the canvas area of the row. A wider bar represents a task spanning several days, while a point or diamond marker indicates a milestone or date-specific event.

Step 3: Check task phase and colour
Note the colour of the task bar or marker, which reflects the task’s phase in the programme. Use the consistent phase colours across the Gantt and timeline views to quickly recognise where the task sits in the delivery lifecycle.

Step 4: Review task status icon and label
Look at the status icon shown alongside the task’s name to understand whether it is on track, at risk, or otherwise exceptional. Hover over the task name if you need to see the full label where it has been truncated.

Step 5: Hover to highlight related tasks
Move your mouse over the task bar to highlight it and any directly related tasks. Predecessor and dependent tasks connected to the hovered task are visually emphasised so you can see how changes may affect the sequence.

Step 6: Inspect task dates
Use the position of the bar or marker against the shared date grid to understand the planned start and end dates. Date labels, where shown, are formatted in day/month/year order to match UK conventions.

Step 7: Click to open detailed task view
Click the task bar or row to open the detailed task view in the application. From there you can see full task metadata and perform any edits or follow-up actions supported by your workspace.
