Review an item's lifecycle timeline

Use the lifecycle timeline to see a chronological record of what happened to an item, who did it, and how long it spent in each stage.

Audience

This guide is designed for project manager.

Steps

Step 1: Open the item details view

Navigate to the relevant item (such as a RAMS item or task) and open its detail view where the lifecycle timeline rail is displayed.

Step 2: Locate the lifecycle timeline panel

On the detail view, find the vertical lifecycle timeline card, identified by its heading and clock-style history icon on the left-hand side.

Step 3: Read the chronological history

Review the list of entries arranged from oldest at the top to newest at the bottom, each showing a plain-English title describing what happened.

Step 4: Check detailed explanations and comments

For any entry, read the detail text beneath the title to understand comments, reasons for decisions, or other free-text notes recorded at that point in time.

Step 5: Identify who performed each action

Look at the "By {actor name}" line under each entry to see who was responsible for that transition, where this information is available.

Step 6: Review timestamps and time-in-stage

In the right-hand column of each entry, use the timestamp label and meta label (such as time in stage) to understand exactly when the change occurred and how long the item remained in that state.

Step 7: Interpret icons and coloured markers

Use the icons or coloured dots on the rail to distinguish between different types of events or stages, as configured for your workspace.

Interpret icons and coloured markers

Where present, review any extra information shown in the footer area of an entry, such as attachment counts or other contextual indicators.

Step 9: Understand when the timeline is empty

If no lifecycle events have been recorded yet, read the empty message displayed instead of the rail to confirm that there is currently no history for the item.
