Manage sign-offs for a temporary works item

Set up and track who needs to sign off a temporary works item under BS 5975 (the standard for temporary works), so you know who's approved it and who's still needed.

Audience

This guide is designed for project manager.

Steps

Step 1: Open the sign-off tab

Go to the temporary works item and open the "Authorisations" tab to see who needs to sign it off under BS 5975.

Step 2: Check each role and its status

Check each required role — TWS (Temporary Works Supervisor), Designer, Independent Checker, Contractor TWC, and Site Manager — along with who's assigned and whether they've signed off yet.

Step 3: Assign or change who's responsible for a role

For any role that's unassigned or needs changing, select it, then choose someone from the project or enter an external email address, and confirm.

Step 4: Invite them to sign

Once the right person is assigned, send them an invite to sign. This gives them a one-time link so they can add their BS 5975 sign-off.

Step 5: Keep an eye on sign-off progress

Check the status next to each role after sending invites — it'll show whether it's still pending, done, or needs your attention, so you can see how close you are to full sign-off.

Step 6: Remove a sign-off assigned by mistake

If someone's been assigned in error or is no longer the right person, remove them, confirm the removal, and assign someone else if needed.
